Jumanji Theme Park Rides In The Pipeline

The mega movie franchise Jumanji is to be celebrated with a range of themed attractions across the UK, Europe, and the US. Energy Voice reports that Sony Pictures and Merlin Entertainments, who operate Alton Towers and Legoland, are to join forces to design rides, themed hotel rooms, and retail outlets.

Subsea engineering firm Oceaneering will work with the operators to design a jeep-themed ride system, according to the publication. Merlin have described it as a ‘dark ride’ which is “a journey full of pitfalls, surprises and dangers through the wild jungle.” This still leaves rather a lot to the imagination!

The First Jumanji film starred the late and much-loved Robin Williams, and was released way back in 1995. Two hugely successful sequels followed up in 2017 and 2019 respectively. The first theme park based on the franchise has already opened at Merlin’s Gardaland resort in Italy, The Guardian reports.

Merlin chief development officer Mark Fisher said: “Our Merlin team are already hard at work developing brilliant creative concepts, which will bring to life the blockbuster-famous Jumanji film across our Theme Parks and Waterparks. We can’t wait to deliver thrilling rides and experiences for guests and film fans alike! The game is certainly on!”

Jeffrey Godsick, a senior executive at Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), said: “Merlin is the ideal company to bring the world of Jumanji to life. We always knew it was a much-loved franchise. Fans of Jumanji will be fully immersed into the worlds of our films and have an unforgettable experience.”

Merlin and Sony Pictures have collaborated on previous projects, including the Ghostbusters themed ride at Heide Park in Germany. Merlin has also worked with brands such as CBeebies, Peppa Pig, and Marvel to produce theme parks, and is also set to take over Cadbury World, the chocolate based attraction in the West Midlands.
